Business Applications
The Business Applications sector of the E. Amaldi covers the entire range of requirements of the innovation finance value chain, from the analysis of idea/innovation tech transfer processes to the support activities for the internationalisation of companies through direct and indirect support instruments.
The Business Applications sector thus aims to facilitate and promote technology transfer and the development of technological innovation by supporting start-ups and SMEs through public and private financing opportunities, acting as a collector between institutional players, research organisations/universities, space companies, investors, public and private end-users, ‘space’ and ‘no-space’.
It also manages international initiatives such as participation in sector associations and participation in European and national calls for proposals, setting up ad hoc consortia.
What we do
We monitor and analyse the space sector, provide technical support and
the organisation of training courses, as well as assisting aerospace companies in participating in European competitions such as Horizon Europe, I3, EDF, etc. The Business Applications team is a member of the ESA Space Solutions network and has managed the Italian ESA Business Applications Ambassadorial Platform and the InCubed+ programme. For the European Commission, the team is a promoter of the Copernicus programme as a member of the Copernicus Relay network.
The team promotes and organises conferences, workshops and thematic round tables to raise awareness among space and non-space actors on the benefits and opportunities of the space sector. In particular, it is the creator and organiser of the NSE-New Space Economy European Expoforum and PINN-Spring of Innovation conferences.

Purpose
The Business Applications sector of the E. Amaldi Foundation aims to facilitate
and promote technology transfer from the upstream to the downstream sector, and
vice versa, offering support to innovative start-ups and SMEs that propose themselves to the market
using space technologies, through public and private funding opportunities.
The activities carried out are intended to contribute to consolidating Italy’s position in the New Space Economy, while at the same time positioning the Foundation as an authoritative player in the value chain that starts from the Space Industry, i.e. research, development and implementation of enabling space infrastructures (upstream), and ends with the production of innovative space-enabled products and services (downstream), strengthening Italy’s role as one of the few nations in the world to have a complete product chain in the space sector.
